So like I mentioned yesterday, even though my flu symptoms showed up almost a week ago, Bryan and Camilla so far appear to have escaped the virus.
I've been following Camilla around with the thermometer - for someone who screams bloody murder at the prospect of having her hair washed, she's remarkably cooperative about having her temperature taken - but so far she has had not the slightest hint of a fever.
On Saturday we'd had plans to go over to my sister's house for dinner and trick-or-treating with friends. Obviously we had to cancel those, but we decided that if Camilla was still well by evening we'd dress her up and take her out in our neighborhood. We figured it would be fine for Blaise and me to go too as long as he stayed in the stroller/Ergo and we kept away from people.
Camilla spent the day bouncing around in her cute little Halloween jumper, unaware that her candy-collecting fate depended on that little number on the thermometer's screen.
Fortunately it stayed well below 98.6 (my basal body temperature is 96.8, and Camilla appears to have inherited the chilliness from me). So after dinner we suited up and headed out.
We've planned that next weekend we'll celebrate Halloween again with my family when we're up visiting them, so that is my excuse for the following pictures: I knew we'd have a chance to get better ones later.
More than a month ago I asked Camilla what she wanted to be for Halloween and she answered promptly, "A butterfly!" I asked again and again and she never changed her tune, so I bought a costume for $5 on eBay and called it good.
I've mentioned before that Blaise receives all his clothes from the son of a co-worker of Bryan's, and this includes things like Halloween costumes. Ergo his costume for this year was pre-decided. He was a cow. (Next year he's going to be a pumpkin. Fortunately the mother of the other child and I agree on what is a cute/appropriate costume for a small person.)
It took a while to convince him that he really wanted to wear the hat. But once he had it on, well...
I do believe that is the world's cutest crawling cow.
Despite the windiness and the relative dearth of houses handing out candy (this is why we normally go to my sister's neighborhood; it's like a block party over there), Camilla had a blast trick-or-treating. Just like last year, it took a couple tries before she figured out that "trick-or-treat" were the magic words, but once she caught on she said them loudly and clearly every time. She was also good with the "thank you."
We push the thank-yous hard - I want people to admire my kid because she's well-mannered, not because her little blond curls are so cute peeking out of her pink hood.
But it's okay if they admire both, I guess.
There were so few kids trick-or-treating in our neighborhood that people were VERY generous with the candy. One woman filled both her hands and dropped probably a dozen pieces of sugary goodness into Camilla's bucket.
It's way too much for a three-year-old, really. Camilla's lucky she has her parents to help her eat it.
A three-year-old would never be discerning enough to notice something like this:
Hope you had a happy Halloween!
If you posted pictures on your own blog, leave a link in the comments. I can never get enough of cute kids in costumes.

Seriously? How can all the Reese's be different?

The curls in that first photo are too much! As is the cow, of course. :)

Teddy was a polar bear; photos can be found in the November 1st entry. You may want to skip today's, as it's a sad one.
Your brood are simply adorable, btw.

That smallest Reese's is definitely a rip off! I want the whole .75 oz. Your kids are adorable. And actually, my daughter had a very similar costume- pink butterfly. She's too young to have a say, but I couldn't resist the cuteness.

OMG she is adorable! Good for you, finding the costume on ebay - prices on new costumes can be horrifying (we get ours secondhand as well). It's fun finding out what their own visions of themselves are like (Daniel decided to "be wizard!" - NO idea where that came from, but hey, it worked!) but I do enjoy getting to inflict my own taste on an oblivious baby and not have to worry about whether we'll be able to find a wizard hat with enough stars on it :).

Cute! Thanks for sharing the pics. My son (2.25 yrs old) was a tow truck - thank the Lord we got the costume from Goodwill because the original price was $30. Crazy! http://wmgavin.blogspot.com/2009/11/halloween.html

I LOVE that jumper. Oh, the cuteness!

Oh my goodness, Arwen. Those kids are so adorable! I love Camilla's jumper and if that's not just the cutest crawling cow I've ever seen! I hope you guys are feeling better soon and that you have a lovely Halloween Take Two next week.
I don't post pics on my blog - it makes Tim uncomfortable. So the boys are up on my facebook page. My precious little tiger and roaring zebra!

I had to go look at the Reese's we handed out - .6 oz. So, at least they weren't the smallest! And we did give each kid two pieces of candy, so I don't feel quite so bad :)
Your kids looked cute!

Camilla is beautiful and looking and so grown up! My daughter is just a bit older than Camilla and I can't believe how she seemed to turn into a little girl over night. And that is one mighty cute cow too. My three kids had a great time trick-or-treating-- the 8 yr. old tried to convince his siblings to go with a Harry Potter theme but only his sister would go along. So, we had Harry, Hedwig, and a 6 yr. old Batman. Fun!

LOVE the costumes, and HAHA on the reese's LOL! I've never noticed that before.
I made some of the costumes, and then we used my costume, and my hubby's - to announce something special!

pursuingparenthood.blogspot.com. The costume photos are a couple of posts back because of NaBloPoMo. On Halloween, actually. Also, what kind of camera do you have? It takes nice, crisp pictures.

OH my word! Too cute. The butterfly and the cow...sounds like a fairy tale, doesn't it?
This was one of my favorite Halloweens, costume-wise.

Love it, Arwen! They are adorable! And, yeah, I agree on the Reese's bit. I'm glad you noticed. We need more people like you in the world to rid it of sub par chocolate amounts.

Definitely the cutest crawling cow ever! I cannot wait to see those kiddos again once quarantine is over (like, tomorrow ;)

Haven't seen you all in a while! Would love to get together when you're all healthy and well. Here's a link to halloween cuteness: http://purposeandgrace.blogspot.com/2009/11/oopsalmost-forgot-trick-or-treating.html
