Yesterday was an exciting day around here. My sister, eight days after her due date, finally went into labor around 5 am. She labored all day - more than seventeen hours total - and finally gave birth around 10:15pm. Matthew Benedict weighed 8lbs 1.5oz and is 21 inches long. And of course, he is just beautiful.
Maybe it's because his nervous system is five weeks more developed than Daniel's was when he was born at 35w4d, but Matthew seems very calm to me. He's hardly twitchy at all and I hope for my sister's sake that he'll be a very easy baby.
The hospital "recommends" that only siblings visit but because our children are pretty much like siblings and get exposed to all the same stuff anyway - plus Milla is healthy as anything these days - we took her up to see the baby. She didn't know what to think of him at first.
But all afternoon she's been talking about him. "See? Baby Ma-fu? 'gain?" she asked me after dinner, and I had to tell her that she wouldn't get to see him again until tomorrow. I can understand her eagerness, though - I'd spend all my time with the little guy if I could.
He's just that sweet.
